Himachal Pradesh Cloudburst: Five Dead; Rescue Operation On To Trace The Missing

Multiple agencies such as the Army, NDRF, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, State Disaster Response Force, police, and home guards are involved in the rescue operations

Rescue operations are progressing in the three districts of Himachal Pradesh to locate over 45 people went missing following cloudbursts-induced flashfloods. In the several incidents of cloudburst, five people were killed, and heavy rain washed away many houses, bridges and roads.

As per the official reports, out of the 33 people trapped at Malana II power project in Kullu district, 29 were safely rescued late in the night, while four remain in the powerhouse. The rescue teams comprising NDRF and home guard successfully saved the majority despite damage to a wall and tunnel due heavy rains.

Multiple agencies such as the Army, NDRF, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, State Disaster Response Force, police, and home guards are involved in the rescue operations. Drones have been incorporated to aid in track down the missing individuals. Relatives of the missing persons are also present at the location.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu told ANI that the “relief and rescue work is going on rapidly”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also closely monitoring the situation in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.

The incidents of cloudburst happened in Sainj, Nirmand, and Malana areas in Mandi, Kullu,and Shimla districts on Wednesday. In addition, a flash flood was reported at Malana village in Kullu.
